The website is an extension of the investment thesis.
A founder considering an investment partner is making a judgement long before the first conversation. They want to understand your investment thesis, how you work with management teams and which claims are backed by actual transactions. A private equity website should make that judgement easier without pretending every fund needs a sprawling investor portal.
For smaller PE firms and independent acquisition groups, a useful site can communicate sector focus, typical situations, approach to partnerships and how sellers should start a confidential dialogue. It should not read like a generic dealmaking brochure. Portfolio pages are valuable only when current ownership and publication permissions have been checked. A transparent distinction between current investments, realised investments and illustrative sector interests matters more than decorative figures.
A founder’s first private-equity questions are not about your colour palette
What do you buy? What happens after a transaction? Who will I meet? Do you invest your own capital, manage a fund or advise buyers? Different models need different language. The public website should distinguish an investment firm from an intermediary and not imply discretionary asset-management authority where there is none.
A strong first screen might state a verified investment focus and link to three routes: Our approach, Who we partner with, and Confidential introduction. Avoid a giant form asking for revenue, EBITDA and personal details before establishing trust. Explain the information needed for an initial conversation and how sensitive material is handled.
Investment criteria as useful content, not decorative numbers
For a real firm, describe sectors of interest, geography, company situations and partnership philosophy only when the investment team has approved them. The interactive concept could let a founder choose succession, growth capital or buy-and-build, then show a relevant explanation of the firm’s approach. It must not automatically declare a company eligible, promise financing or imply previous investment success.
If transaction announcements are included, separate current portfolio, historical investments and illustrative interests. A past portfolio company is not a current holding merely because it improves the design.
The page’s commercial job
This page should attract a founder or investment partner who values clarity and discretion, not people browsing stock-market advice. The site should also screen out requests for bespoke investor portals, fund subscriptions and data rooms from the standard build. We would observe qualified introduction enquiries and whether visitors understand the firm’s mandate. Any performance data would need to come from the firm, not from FiveK’s assumptions.
Credibility without inflated transaction claims
Approved investment criteria; current team biographies; verified portfolio relationships; clear dates for exits and transactions; genuine sector focus. Avoid unsubstantiated returns, deal values, client logos and regulated financial promotion language.

Demo concept: The investment-fit explorer
a visitor chooses sector, company stage and transaction situation to see an illustrative route to the appropriate contact. It is not an eligibility assessment or an investment recommendation.
Who this is for: Independent PE houses, buy-and-build groups and acquisition platforms that want a refined corporate identity without a custom fund administration system.
A sensible scope boundary: The £5,000 scope is public-facing content and a simple enquiry path. Secure LP areas, data rooms, KYC, deal submission workflows and regulated financial services functionality need separate scope and legal review.
Questions about discretion and scope
Do we need to publish our entire portfolio?
No. Publish only information that is authorised, current and strategically useful. An investment thesis and a credible team can be clearer than an overdecorated deal list.
Can you build an investor portal too?
Not within a standard marketing website. Authentication, documents, permissions and investment data would be a separate project.
Send your investment thesis. We’ll shape the front door.
Start by sending us a link to the current website, a short description of the business and any existing photography or brand materials. We can discuss the relevant £5,000 standard-site scope by email, with no mandatory call. Email FiveK Studio.
